Cal City MX Park sits outside California City in the Mojave Desert and is described by Friends of Jawbone as a family-owned and operated facility; on the Jawbone Canyon OHV map it is in section D-10. There are two courses: a main track that the operator describes as national outdoor style with varied terrain and obstacles, and a pee wee track. The fees are on the operator's own page: 40 dollars for all riders on the main track, 20.00 dollars there for 50cc machines, 20.00 dollars per rider on the pee wee track, and spectators pay nothing on regular practice days. Camping is always free - Friends of Jawbone adds that the parking area outside the fence is used for it - and there is a concession stand and a pro shop on site, along with flaggers and an EMT. Riders must be at least 4 years old, and minors may only ride when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Day-by-day opening hours are in the operator's calendar; over the summer the park is closed. Our own record has the ground down as sand, with a fast, jump-heavy and at the same time technical character. Sand absorbs energy and gives it back late: the rear works constantly, and if it comes back too fast it starts pogoing instead of staying in the ground. Top of our cause list for that is rebound that is too fast at the rear - slow it down, with fewer clicks out, so the rear stops pogoing in the deep stuff.
