Track details
Dry loam is the ideal case: grippy, forms lines and forgives mistakes.
After rain loam turns heavy and sticky - knobs pack up and the bike feels noticeably heavier.
Walden Motocross lies on Orchard Drive in Wallkill, New York. The track directory Riderplanet describes a main track of about one mile plus a separate beginners track; the ground is given as almost all loose dirt. Practice runs on select Wednesdays and Saturdays - so there are no fixed weekly dates, and the current schedule sits on the operator's site. AMA membership is not required for the scheduled open practice days, but a district card is needed to prove your class, because riders are grouped by class. Overnight parking in your vehicle is permitted on site; tents and open fires are not. Alongside the main number there is a separate hotline for enquiries. Our record lists loam with jumps and technical sections, and the description of almost all loose dirt fits that: ground like this gets ridden deep over the course of a practice day, ruts form, and it is in those ruts that the security of the front end is decided. Top of our cause list for a front wheel that knifes into a rut and oversteers is a fork riding too deep, meaning set up too soft, which then folds into the rut - add a little compression at the front.
