Prairie City SVRA (Hangtown)

Prairie City SVRA is a state off-highway vehicle park run by California's OHMVR Division on White Rock Road in Rancho Cordova near Sacramento. Of roughly 1,344 acres of state land, the park states that about 836 acres are currently devoted to OHV recreation. Several separate courses sit side by side on the grounds: the Pro-Am MX track, an MX practice track, an ATV practice track, a 70cc beginner track and a 110cc kids track, plus a 230cc intermediate course and quarter midget, go-kart and 4x4 areas. The MX practice track is fully groomed every Wednesday and lightly groomed on Saturdays, with watering through the week as needed. Day use costs 5.00 US dollars per vehicle, the park opens every day of the year except Wednesdays, and hours shift seasonally between 8 am to 5 pm in winter and 8 am to 8 pm in high summer. The site hosts the Hangtown Motocross Classic, founded in 1968 by the Dirt Diggers North Motorcycle Club and still run by them, originally held at Murray's Ranch outside Placerville. The 57th edition is scheduled for 2026, with camping on site and toilets but no showers. Our record has this as hardpack with off-camber sections, technical parts, jumps and fast stretches. Freshly watered, that kind of ground gives plenty of grip; through the day it goes hard and slick, and the first thing you lose is the feel of the front wheel, which skates across the surface instead of biting. Top of our cause list for that is too much front tyre pressure: take some out so the contact patch grows and the front starts talking to you again.
