Montopoli di Sabina

The Montopoli di Sabina motocross track sits near Ponte Sfondato in the province of Rieti and, according to the track directory mxcenter.it, is run by the Motoclub Hobby Motor. The lap is 1400 metres long on dirt, the circuit is rated category 4 and homologated by the FMI. Riding is weekends only, Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 to 13:00 - one morning window, nothing else. On site there is a bar and cold showers; hot showers, 220 V outlets, floodlighting and a separate minicross track are not available. The directory recommends calling the circuit before you travel, as times can change without prior notice. Our record lists a clay surface with a technical character. Clay holds moisture for a long time and turns tacky under load: it forms deep, clean ruts that give plenty of grip as long as you stay in the line, and punish you the moment the front wheel catches the edge of one. If the front knifes in and oversteers there, top of our cause list is a fork that is too soft: it rides too low and folds into the rut instead of tracking through it. Add compression at the front so the fork stays higher in the stroke.
