Starts: getting the holeshot

Motocross · intermediate · starts

The holeshot is won before the gate ever drops. Choose a gear that pulls cleanly without bogging (usually second on a four-stroke) and find your launch rpm. Sit forward over the bars with your weight on the front so it can't wheelie, balls of your feet ready to find the pegs early. As the gate moves, release the clutch progressively - slip it to keep the front down and the drive hooked up, don't just dump it. Look up the track, not down at the gate. A start (holeshot) device that lowers the front helps enormously, especially on four-strokes. Smooth clutch control and eyes up beat raw aggression every time.

A starting point to verify on the bike - not a safety guarantee. Change one thing at a time and check on track.
