Loisir club de Vaas manages a 17-hectare site in the Sarthe, north of the village off the D30. The main course measures 1600 metres at six metres wide, with a children's track of 100 by 6 metres alongside it. The ground is described as a mix of natural earth, hard-packed earth and sand; other sources call it sandy and stony. Riding is on Sundays and public holidays from 9:00, and the regional championship runs on the first Sunday in May. With an FFM licence the day costs 10 euros, with a UFOLEP licence 6, and children under twelve ride free. The club runs coaching sessions on Saturday afternoons every fortnight, all year round. The thing riders underestimate on a track with changing ground: hard earth and sand demand two different braking points within the same lap. Memorise where the surface flips, not just where the corner is. The problem that catches you in the ruts: the front knifes and oversteers. First on our list is a fork that is too soft and rides too low - add compression and the front wheel stays up.
