Royal Mountain near Caroga Lake is a ski area in winter and motocross ground in summer; according to the operator, racing has run there since 1984. The track is a little over a mile long and holds doubles, triples and tabletops for novices and experts alike; riders of the Central New York Motocross Racing Association have voted it track of the year nine times. Royal Mountain is a member of the CNYMRA and of AMA District 3. For the 2026 season the operator rebuilt the track completely, with a new layout, hundreds of yards of new material and its own earthwork equipment; the surface is hand-raked after every event, and screened topsoil is kept on site for that. A race day starts with sign-up from 7am to 9am and practice from 8:30am. The stated fees are 20 US dollars weekend admission, 35 US dollars for open practice, 35 US dollars per class and 25 US dollars for the 50cc classes. Camping is available the night before an event, with gates opening at noon on the eve. A lap of just over a mile with doubles, triples and tabletops means a lot of hard landings in quick succession, and a freshly rebuilt layout has to be learned lap by lap. If the rear bottoms on those landings, top of our cause list is rear high-speed compression that is too soft - add some so the hit is caught under control.
