MX Track Neukalen in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is one of the less complicated addresses in the north-east: the track is permanently open, guest riders are explicitly welcome, and it is ridden not only on motocross bikes but on quads too. The ground is recorded as mixed, and the layout is built with jumps, a step-up and a step-down plus tables. At a little over twenty metres above sea level, every bit of elevation this place has is in the layout itself. That makes Neukalen somewhere you can practise jump technique in isolation, with no slope interfering - and that is exactly what we would spend the day on. Step-ups and step-downs are the two features that improve take-off technique fastest, because the mistake shows immediately: pull too late and you land flat on the lip instead of on the table. The problem that catches nearly everyone on that lip: the bike bucks instead of leaving cleanly. First on our cause list is rear rebound - slow it down, fewer clicks out, and the catapulting stops.
