On Seacoast Road near Limavady, out on the Magilligan peninsula at the mouth of Lough Foyle, sits a pure sand facility for solo riders of every age and ability; in Ireland it counts among the most important motocross practice venues. The circuit hosts a four-round winter series for young riders, with classes from PW50 and autos through small- and big-wheel 65s and 85s to pit bikes. At events practice usually starts at 10:00, and MRA Ireland has run training days here. Sand rewards consistency, not bravery. The fastest lap of the day here almost never belongs to the rider attacking hardest, but to the one holding the same line and the same revs for a whole session. Make that your training goal - not the one good lap. The problem deep sand hands to anyone who reacts late: the rear pogos and swims. First item on our cause list is rear rebound set too fast for sand - slow it so the rear stops building itself up.
