Daytona International Speedway in Florida opened on 22 February 1959; NASCAR has operated the venue since 1959 and has owned it since 2019, before that it belonged to the International Speedway Corporation. The asphalt road course also dates from 1959 and measures 3.560 miles, or 5.729 kilometres, across twelve turns; motorcycles use their own slightly shorter version of 3.510 miles (5.649 kilometres), also with twelve turns. According to Wikipedia the banking is 31 degrees in the oval turns, 18 degrees in the tri-oval and 3 degrees on the back straight, while the infield sections are flat. The Daytona 200 ran here from 1961 to 2019 and again from 2021. Since 1971 the venue has also hosted an AMA Supercross Championship round without interruption, its course built from sand and dirt between pit road and the tri-oval. So one circuit holds two very different demands: long, fast sweepers over the banked oval sections and a technical, flat infield. Exactly at the transition, when the bike runs heavily loaded off the banking onto the flat, the balance between front and rear decides whether turn-in feels planted or vague. Top of our cause list is a ride-height and sag balance that is off: set sag properly first, before you touch compression or rebound.
