Motocross Amriswil

The track at Amriswil is not a training facility but a race venue. The Auto- und Motor-Sportclub Oberthurgau (AMCO), a section of the SAM founded in 1926, has staged a motocross here since 1958. The first edition ran in the Oberau between Amriswil and Hagenwil; since 1970 the event has been held at the same spot in der Buerglen near Spitzerueti/Raeuchlisberg - in 2016 for the 50th time at that location. A European Championship race has been part of the day's programme since 1971, with solo and sidecar classes. In good weather the club expects 7,000 to 8,000 spectators. The date falls in autumn, usually at the end of September, and as the final race of the season it often decides the SAM Swiss Championship; since 2005 the programme has been spread over one and a half days. Regular training operation is not publicly documented. What we hold on file is a mixed surface at roughly 491 metres of altitude. Because riding here is not continuous, the most important preparation is not one on the suspension: the course is prepared for the race weekend, and how the ground sits then depends on the autumn weather, which the club itself names as a factor right down to the spectator count. If you want to ride rather than watch, ask AMCO before you travel whether and when the site is accessible outside the event at all.
