Circuit Moto Cross de Cernay

The Circuit Moto Cross de Cernay lies alongside the RN83 at Cernay in the Haut-Rhin and is run by the Moto-Club du Vieil-Armand. The MX Circuit track directory gives a length of 1,100 metres at 6 metres wide and describes the ground as plain earth. Riding is possible on four days a week - Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday - at a day rate of 10 euros. That makes Cernay one of the few venues in the region that is not limited to isolated weekend dates. An FFM or UFOLEP licence is required, and motorcycles only are admitted. Mathieu Saltzmann is named as the person in charge. The site holds a single motocross course used for practice and recreational riding. Over 1,100 metres the corners come thick and fast, and because our record lists the ground as loam it turns grippy and soft when damp. You notice it on corner exit: as soon as you get on the throttle the rear squats and the bike runs wider than you planned. Top of our cause list is rear low-speed compression that is too soft - add a little so the rear stops squatting under power. Treat it as a starting point, not a safety promise.
