Whips and scrubs: the safe basics
Motocross · advanced · jumping
A scrub keeps you low and fast over a jump; a whip is its stylish cousin. Both rest on solid jumping fundamentals, so don't try them until your normal jumps are consistent and controlled. A scrub begins on the face: turn into the jump slightly and lay the bike over as you leave the lip, then use body english and a blip of throttle to bring it back level before you land. Keep your eyes up and on the landing, and commit - half-hearted attempts are how people crash. Build it up on small, familiar jumps with plenty of run-off, never on an unknown or technical jump. And learn your air survival skills first: rear brake taps the front down, throttle lifts it.
A starting point to verify on the bike - not a safety guarantee. Change one thing at a time and check on track.
