Body position in braking bumps
Motocross · novice · braking
Braking bumps reward a calm, centred body. Keep your elbows up, your weight central to slightly back, and grip the bike firmly with your knees so the rear stays planted and tracking. Don't tip all your weight onto the bars - that overloads the front and makes it deflect off every edge. Brake hardest while the bike is still straight and upright, then ease off the brakes smoothly as you reach the corner. Stay loose in the arms and let the suspension do its job underneath you; a stiff, hunched-forward rider turns small bumps into big deflections. Look ahead to the corner, not down at the bumps.
