Sonoma Raceway is in Sonoma, California. Wikipedia records that the quarter-mile dragstrip opened on 8 March 1969 and the road course on 28 March 1969, and that Speedway Motorsports has owned the venue since November 1996. The full course is given there as 4.056 km with 12 turns, the NASCAR configuration as 3.203 km because a link built in 1997 called the Chute bypasses turns five and six, known as the Carousel. The surface is asphalt. NASCAR has raced here since 1989, IndyCar from 2005 to 2018, and NHRA has run sanctioned events since 1969. For motorcycles the AMA Superbike Championship is documented for 1977 to 1979, 1982 to 1988, 1993 to 1999 and 2001 to 2012. The operator's own site lists track days and car club dates alongside race events. Twelve turns in just over four kilometres, plus the esses and the Carousel: the lap asks for constant transitions and rewards precise turn-in rather than long full-throttle runs. If you notice the machine refusing the tight line you picked and drifting wide, top of our cause list is too little rear ride height - it makes the steering geometry lazy. Raise the rear or drop the front to sharpen turn-in.
