The motocross track at Grello near Gualdo Tadino in Umbria is run by the X Power Team. According to the directory mxcenter.it it measures 1300 metres, has a medium-hard surface, runs in category 3 and is registered with FMI and UISP. There is a bar, 220-volt outlets and a dedicated minicross area, but no showers and no floodlighting. It opens on Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings; the directory advises calling ahead, and no fees are published. Racing here is documented: on 7 June 2015 the venue held a round of the UISP regional championship of the Marche with close to 140 riders, organised by the X Power Team. The report by motocrossromagna.it singles out the irrigation system that kept dust under control despite severe heat, and describes the terrain as constantly rising and falling. That up-and-down is the part that costs you most. On the climbs you have to build traction, and if the rear spins there you lose the speed you carried in at the bottom. Top of our cause list for a rear that spins on climbs is too much rear tyre pressure: the contact patch ends up smaller than it needs to be. Drop the pressure - easy to do safely with a mousse - and get the grip on the climb back.
