Broome-Tioga Sports Center sits at 50 Shaffer Road in Richford, New York State, and has been run by Tom Hurd and his family for about 40 years. The 198-acre site holds a national motocross track, two hare scramble tracks, a concrete starting gate with hydraulic lift and a mud bog facility with bleacher seating, plus an announcer's tower, hospitality and bathroom facilities. Motocross, ATV and UTV racing, hare scrambles, demolition derbies, supercross and autocross have all been held here. The Pro Motocross series lists the track as a national venue from 1979 to 2006; in its all-time records Ricky Carmichael holds seven wins there in the 450 class and Mark Barnett four in the 250 class. Worth knowing before you plan a trip: according to regional radio station The Hawk the property is listed for sale at 1.3 million dollars because the owners want to retire, with events still scheduled at the time of that report. Our record holds a firm surface with a technical character, off-camber sections and fast stretches. On hard ground and in off-camber corners the front gives you the least feedback, and that is exactly where you lose it.
