Anaconda MX Track

Anaconda MX Track lies on Lost Creek Road near Anaconda, Montana, in the shadow of a dormant copper smelter: one mile long, mainly hardpacked soil, big jumps and climbs of around 150 feet, with half the lap cut into the side of a hill. It is run by the Anaconda Motocross Association and sits between 1,550 and 1,650 metres above sea level. Riding is available daily but only on a membership: there is no day pass and no buddy system, the gate is locked and the key comes from the owners. Annual membership costs 200 dollars for the first family member and 25 for each additional one. Racing does not require an AMA membership, and the track is a fixture on the Central Montana Motocross calendar. With half a lap on the hillside this is not a track you take on casually. Climbs cost strength and traction at the same time, and at close to 1,600 metres the engine gives you less than you are used to on top of that. That is exactly where the most common problem sits: the rear spins on the climb and loses traction. Top of our cause list is too much rear pressure - drop it for a bigger contact patch, easily done with a mousse.
