The standing attack position

Enduro · novice · body-position

The attack position is the home base for everything off-road. Stand on the pegs with your knees slightly bent and gripping the bike, weight on the balls of your feet, back straight and head up. Bend your elbows out and up so your arms can work like extra suspension, and hold the bars lightly - one or two fingers always covering clutch and front brake. Standing puts your weight low through the pegs and lets the bike move freely underneath you, which gives far more control and grip than sitting on rough ground. Look well ahead, stay relaxed, and let your legs and arms soak up the terrain while your body stays calm and centred over the bike.
