Controlling steep descents

Enduro · intermediate · braking

A steep descent is something you control, not something you survive. Stand with your weight back and low, arms long, and let the bike run straight down the fall line instead of fighting it across the slope. Stay in gear with the clutch out so engine braking helps you, and feather both brakes smoothly: locking the front washes it out, locking the rear makes it slide sideways. If the rear does step out, ease off the rear brake and look where you want to go - not at the obstacle you're worried about. Choose your line before you commit, because corrections halfway down are hard. On loose, steep ground a little momentum is your friend: too slow is just as dangerous as too fast.

A starting point to verify on the bike - not a safety guarantee. Change one thing at a time and check on track.
