Venosa in Basilicata is an exception among southern Italian tracks of this size: 1200 metres of dirt run by Moto Club Carpe Diem OfMotors - and classed category 2, one step above most of the regional circuits around it. No homologation is recorded in the directory. Bar, cold shower and 220V outlets are there; hot water and floodlights are not. There are no fixed opening hours, so here you phone before you drive. What category 2 means in detail is not verifiable anywhere - all that is certain is that the grading sits higher than at the neighbouring tracks. So do not lean on the number, lean on the first session: 1200 metres is learned quickly, and by the third lap you know more about this circuit than any directory does. And that is where the thing that catches nearly everyone on this ground happens: the front knifes in and pushes wide. Top of our cause list is a fork set too soft that dives too deep - add compression and the front stays stable.
