The Salzburgring lies in Plainfeld east of Salzburg and is run by IGM Salzburgring. The operator states a track length of 4,255 metres and twelve corners, six left-handers and six right-handers. The maximum gradient is 3.8 percent and the steepest descent 1.8 percent; the lowest point of the circuit sits at 648.3 metres and the highest at 670.6 metres. The circuit has been in operation since 1969, and the first motorcycle Grand Prix of Austria was held here as early as 1970. For infrastructure the operator lists 31 garages, 15 of them double garages, two grandstands seating 2,800 and 300, a fuel station with several octane grades and on-site catering. Alongside racing, the site is now also used for safety training, vehicle presentations and club meetings. Twelve corners across more than four kilometres means long, fast sections: you spend a lot of time at high speed at a steady lean angle, and that is exactly where any restlessness in the chassis shows up, because the bike stops telling you cleanly where it is in a fast sweeper. If the bike feels vague through those sections, top of our cause list is a ride-height and sag balance that is off - so set sag properly before you start turning individual damping clicks.
