On the White River near Norfork in northern Arkansas sits one of the state's oldest tracks. River Ridge Motocross is a privately owned site of about 40 acres among mature trees; the ground is a reddish loam mixed with sand and clay, mostly loose with firmer patches. Sources describe a very long, fast course with natural elevation change, several large tabletops, many small jumps and berms in practically every corner. There is also a quarter-mile flat track and an RC car track. Riding is Sundays from 11:00 until dark; entry is 7 dollars, 3 for ages 6 to 12, and riding costs 20 dollars for amateurs and 30 for experts. An MX helmet is required, a permit has to be arranged in advance, UTVs and side-by-sides stay out, and primitive camping on site is allowed. Long and fast sounds relaxed and is not. On a course like this you do not lose concentration in the section, you lose it on the fast stretch before it - which is exactly where a mistake costs the most. That is where the classic problem shows up too: in fast sweepers the bike feels vague and unsettled. First on our cause list is the sag and ride-height balance. Set sag properly before you turn a single clicker.
