At the Kraberg near Steinbach an der Steyr lies a grown natural circuit that Upper Austria mostly knows by one name: the Krabergrennen. MSC Steyrtal stages it as a combined motocross and endurocross meeting, with up to six classes, practice from 09:00, races from 13:00 and free entry for spectators. More useful for planning than any race distance, though, is the operating season: 15 March to 31 October. Motocross and enduro running side by side here is no accident - a natural track offers both, which is exactly why the day is wasted on lap times. Take the technical sections one at a time and only link them once each one is solid on its own. Do it the other way round and you spend three hours rehearsing your own mistakes. The problem hard ground brings first: the front feels vague and the grip never arrives. Top of our cause list is front tyre pressure - lower it for a bigger contact patch before you touch anything on the fork.
