The Crossodromo di Acerra lies in Contrada Pezzalunga near Acerra in the province of Naples and is run by Motoclub Cerbone, which says it has been active for more than 35 years and is affiliated to the FMI; the venue is listed as an officially recognised FMI area attrezzata. It opens on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 12:00 and on Sunday from 09:00, and the operator explicitly asks you to call and confirm. Directions given are the Cancello-Acerra-Valle Caudina exit, right at the first traffic light after the Tamoil filling station, with the track signposted 500 metres further on. On site there are men's and women's toilets, a lit car park, a bar and snack service and a bike wash. A motocross school is named as well, offering group and one-to-one courses plus rental machines, taught by Tony Cerbone, certified by the FMI as an off-road instructor. The source says nothing about fees or lap length; our records hold about 1400 metres and a loamy surface. Loam is the ground that builds the deepest ruts once a handful of riders have taken the same line, and in a rut everything is decided at the front wheel. If it knifes in and pulls you over the edge, top of our cause list is a fork that is too soft: it rides too low and folds into the rut. A little more compression keeps it higher in the stroke.
