For Galicia the ground here is unusual: Santa Marina near Ourense - formerly listed under the name Monterrey - rides hard and rocky and dries quickly, which makes it one of the few addresses in the region that still works on a wet day. It was cut in the nineties and the layout still shows it: light remodelling aside, this is old-school motocross with two small tabletops, a double, two shallow pyramids, mostly fast corners and several long straights. There is barely any elevation change, the place is essentially flat - and it draws Galicia's strong riders. Fast corners on hard ground are a head game. Do not turn in quicker, turn in earlier - and leave the throttle alone on the straight before instead of correcting inside the corner. The fault this exposes: the bike goes vague and restless through the fast sweepers. Top of our list is the sag and ride-height balance - set the sag before you touch a single click.
