BÄR Enduro (Lägern)

BAER Enduro is not a club ground but the training operation of Daniel Baer, based in Zurich. Since June 2024 he has additionally run his own practice area inside a limestone quarry on the Laegern. The operator describes it as an off-road course laid out over two quarry levels, with three hills of differing height and steepness, natural obstacles and further built-up training elements; he himself calls the setup unique in Switzerland. Turning up on the day does not work: riding happens either on booked courses for beginners and advanced riders, or on announced dates for free off-road riding. A rental machine is available if you do not bring your own. Prices and fixed opening hours are not publicly documented, and enquiries go directly to the operator. What we hold on file is a technical, tight character with sections running across the slope. On ground like this you rarely ride fast. Most of it is walking pace over edges, steps and short steep climbs - exactly where the engine has the least rpm to work with. Top of our cause list here is drive at low revs: a dragging clutch or a flywheel that is too light lets the bike die in tight technical sections, and a flywheel weight or a properly set up clutch takes that stalling away.
